MANGMI Support Guide · Windows Only
This guide explains how to reinstall official firmware on the MANGMI AIR X and MANGMI Pocket Max using Qualcomm Flash Image Loader (QFIL). It covers preparation, Emergency Download mode, model-specific settings, firmware loading, flashing, and troubleshooting.
Important: back up your data first
Firmware flashing can erase user data. The Pocket Max procedure requires Erase All Before Download, which removes user data. Read the entire guide before starting, use the firmware package that matches your device serial-number prefix, and never disconnect the device while QFIL is flashing.
1. Before you begin
Prepare the correct firmware, drivers, utility, and a reliable USB connection before placing the handheld in Emergency Download (EDL) mode.
Safety checklist
- Back up any files and game saves you need.
- Download the official firmware package that matches the serial-number (SN) prefix on your device.
- Use a known-good USB data cable connected directly to the PC. Avoid unstable hubs and adapters.
- Keep the Windows PC connected to power.
- Do not close QFIL, power off the PC, or disconnect USB while the progress bar is moving.
Required downloads
| Item | Purpose | Link |
|---|---|---|
| Official firmware | Select the package for your SN prefix. | Download |
| 7-Zip | Extract the downloaded firmware archive. | Download |
| Qualcomm USB driver | Allows Windows to detect the QDLoader 9008 interface. | Download |
| QPST / QFIL | Install QPST; QFIL is included in the installation. | Download |
2. Enter EDL mode
EDL mode exposes the Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 interface required by QFIL.
- Power off the MANGMI handheld completely.
- Disconnect the USB cable from the device.
- Press and hold Volume Up + Volume Down.
- While continuing to hold both volume buttons, press the Power button.
- Keep holding the buttons until Windows detects Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008.
Expected result
In Windows Device Manager or QFIL, the device appears as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008. The COM number may vary.
If the 9008 port does not appear
- Confirm the handheld was fully powered off before starting.
- Repeat the button sequence and keep both volume buttons held while pressing Power.
- Confirm the Qualcomm USB driver installed successfully.
- Try a different USB data cable or a different USB port on the PC.
3. Configure QFIL
Connect to the 9008 port
- Open QFIL from the QPST installation folder.
- Click Select Port.
- Choose the entry labeled Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008, then click OK.
No port listed? Return to the previous section and enter EDL mode again. QFIL cannot flash the device until the 9008 port is available.
Open FireHose Configuration
- On the QFIL menu bar, select Configuration > FireHose Configuration.
4. Apply model-specific settings
AIR X and Pocket Max do not use the same storage type or erase option. Use the settings below exactly.
| Model | Device Type | Reset After Download | Erase All Before Download |
|---|---|---|---|
| MANGMI AIR X | eMMC | Checked | Not checked |
| MANGMI Pocket Max | UFS | Checked | Checked |
Pocket Max data-loss warning
For Pocket Max, Erase All Before Download must be checked. This erases user data. For AIR X, leave this option unchecked.
- Set Device Type for your model.
- Leave Reset After Download checked.
- Set Erase All Before Download according to the table above.
- Click OK to save the FireHose settings.
5. Load the firmware package
- Under Select Build Type, choose Flat Build.
- Under Select Programmer, click Browse.
- Open the extracted firmware folder and select
prog_firehose_ddr.elf. - Under Select Flat Build, click Load XML. QFIL will prompt for files twice.
AIR X file selection
First prompt
rawprogram_unsparse0.xml
Second prompt
patch0.xml
Pocket Max file selection
On each prompt, select all listed files together.
First prompt: RawProgram files
rawprogram_unsparse0.xmlrawprogram1.xmlrawprogram2.xmlrawprogram3.xmlrawprogram4.xmlrawprogram5.xml
Second prompt: Patch files
patch0.xmlpatch1.xmlpatch2.xmlpatch3.xmlpatch4.xmlpatch5.xml
Check before continuing: Confirm the programmer and XML files came from the same firmware package for the correct model and SN prefix.
6. Flash the firmware
- Confirm the Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 port is still connected.
- Click Download in QFIL.
- Verify that Download becomes unavailable and the progress bar begins moving.
- Wait for the operation to complete. Do not disconnect USB or close QFIL.
- After a successful download, the handheld restarts automatically.
Do not interrupt the flash
Disconnecting power or USB during flashing can leave the device unable to boot. If the operation is interrupted, follow the recovery instructions below before retrying.
7. Troubleshooting
Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 is not detected
- Reinstall or verify the Qualcomm USB driver.
- Try another USB data cable or PC USB port.
- Power off the handheld completely, then repeat the EDL button sequence.
The QFIL download fails
- Try another USB data cable.
- Reload the programmer and XML files.
- Download the correct firmware again and extract it to a new local folder.
The download was interrupted
Press and hold Volume Up + Volume Down + Power to re-enter EDL mode. Confirm the 9008 port is available before starting the download again.
System functions are missing after flashing
Download the firmware package again, extract it again, verify the model/SN match, and repeat the flashing procedure.
Frequently asked questions
Which firmware package should I use?
Use the official package that matches your device model and serial-number prefix. Do not mix programmer or XML files from different packages.
Do AIR X and Pocket Max use the same QFIL settings?
No. AIR X uses eMMC and leaves Erase All Before Download unchecked. Pocket Max uses UFS and requires Erase All Before Download to be checked.
What should I do if QFIL cannot see the device?
Confirm that the device is fully powered off, reinstall the Qualcomm USB driver, try another USB data cable or PC port, and repeat the EDL button sequence.
Can I retry after an interrupted flash?
Yes. Re-enter EDL mode by holding Volume Up + Volume Down + Power, confirm that QDLoader 9008 is detected, then reload the correct files and retry.
